Avalon

AVALON is located just east of the Ottawa Greenbelt in Orléans,   Prior to amalgamation in 2001, the area was in the Town of Cumberland.

This neighbourhood was non-existent until the late 1990s when the urban sprawl intensified in the east end. Avalon quickly developed in the area is now bordered to the north by Innes Road, to the east by a line following (from north to south) Portobello Blvd to Brian Coburn Blvd to Trim Road, the west by Mer Bleue Road and to the south by Wall Road.  According to the Canada 2011 Census, this area had a population of 12,455 and growing every year. There is also plenty of recreational space; plenty of parkland, as well as community centres complement the Elizabeth Manley skating rink at the large Orleans Sportsplex. There is a YMCA, as well as the Ray Friel Recreation Centre,  movie theatres and plenty of bike paths. Several schools can also be found in the area. Easy access to the 417 just to the south make downtown and easy commute; while OC Transpo offers extensive service to the area.. 

At the intersection of Innes and Tenth Line, a large commercial zone with several department and big-box stores developed in conjunction of the residential boom of Avalon.   Avalon is a few minutes away from Place d'Orleans Shopping Mall with underground parking, a food court, jewellery stores, clothing stores, dental office and much more.  A smaller commercial area is currently underway on Trim Road south of Innes and another one is being built at the corner of Tenth Line and Brian Cobourn By-Pass.

The O-Train east-west light-rail line is being built and should be running in 2018 as far east as Trim Road..

The neighbourhood is part of the Portobello South Community Development Association, which also includes Notting Gate and Notting Hill.
